On the occasion of his solo exhibition at Richard Gray Gallery, David Hockney joins us to discuss his recent work. Hockney shares his thoughts about the experience of seeing from a multitude of vantage points, and how time and space is captured through photography.
Time and More, Space and More… presents Hockney’s recent video and photographic works in tandem. To produce these works, Hockney uses the camera to depict impossible visual spaces - a theme which he has carried throughout his practice across a variety of media. Striving to replicate the kaleidoscopic experience of seeing through a composite of vantage points, the videos and photographic drawings on view in the exhibition offer a panoramic sense of time and space. Both Hockney’s video works and large-scale photo drawings came about through the artist's own innovations to photographic and technological processes.
David Hockney: Time and More, Space and More... ran at Richard Gray Gallery’s Gray Warehouse location, Chicago, September 13 – November 21, 2018.
